As a peer led and based program, the DanceWize model for drug education and support has always been acutely adaptable to the evolving needs of our community and setting changes—this strength has helped the program respond effectively and ensure service continuity.

*There are multiple reasons that DanceWIze may need to decline a Request for DanceWize Peer Event Care to attend an event: these include mainly- TIME. DanceWize is in so much demand that we are booked 1 year in advance. We do have a system for taking short notice bookings but receive on average 3 booking requests per WEEK.

And it’s just not possible to deliver the services to the standard we want them to be at if we were to service every request.

The DanceWize program is 'staffed' by VOLUNTEERS with the exception of the 3 paid HRVic Staff that manage administration and maintenance activities. Due to a lack of harm reduction resourcing/funding, we simply can not provide enough people and equipment to attend all requests.

DanceWize have the resources to deliver full-scale peer support services on-site at a limited number of events each year, but we are designed as a public-private partnership. For example, DoH covers our core operational costs, which allows us to offer subsidised services, and event organisers are expected to contribute toward our expenses on a cost-recovery basis. To attend more events, we either have to raise our subsidised fees or get an increase of government funding.
